Roosters coach Trent Robinson throws epic spray on Bunker’s “farce” after high shot by Joseph Manu, Latrell Mitchell, Ashley Klein, Henry Perenara

Roosters manager Trent Robinson whipped the bunker and NRL officers after the Tricolors were beaten 54-12 by city rivals the Rabbitohs on Friday night.

The exuberant encounter was filled with drama and it was an incident that left center Joey Manu with a suspected broken cheekbone that really angered Robinson.

Manu was shot by South Sydney’s Latrell Mitchell with a high shot and consequently had to go to the hospital for medical treatment. However, Mitchell was only allowed 10 minutes in the sin bin by referee Ashley Klein, who also allowed the game to continue as Manu lay on the turf after the jab. Only when the Roosters star confronted Mitchell for the tackle and a scrum broke out, Klein intervened.

“Everyone saw the crash. I’m just baffled,” a bruised Robinson said at his post-match press conference.

“He’s been on the ground for how long? And then it took Joey to get up and go and defend himself with a depressed cheekbone fracture and then they still didn’t want to do anything about it.”

Robinson targeted bunker officer Henry Perenara and Klein in a long, fiery rash.

“Henry Perenara, sitting in the bunker, didn’t stop playing, he didn’t do anything about it. Then Ashley (Klein) asked them to keep playing and the players started over and then (Perenara) missed him completely.

“Perenara, who should know a little about football, sits in the box and then doesn’t do anything about it. For maybe 30, 40, 50 seconds, he doesn’t do anything about it. Joey Manu does something about it.

“It’s a common theme this year, the NRL and the bunker don’t take care of our players. It was clear. They changed two rules – two of this year’s main rules – based on the bunker and the referees don’t do anything. about the Roosters players. And you can tell I’m blowing up for a Roosters player, but (Manu is) in the hospital. And then they’re forced to finally make a call and they send it for 10 to the bin. Ten to the bin! It was ridiculous! It was so bad, it was almost ridiculous.

“They didn’t know what they were doing. How do you send it for 10 to the trash? A guy will finish the year based on a late headshot and he’s 10 minutes in the trash.”

The Roosters manager went so far as to wonder if the referees are worthy of their role after making a decision on the incident.

“You can’t make decisions if that’s your decision,” he said.

“Get out of there. If you can’t do it, get out of there, or just get rid of (the bunker) completely. Get rid of it completely. If you can’t do your job, get out of there.”

“It is proven that the NRL bunker cannot do its job this year. It was a farce, it was an absolute farce.

“For example, to see Joey Manu leave, he has to defend himself … that he should have been stopped 10 seconds after the crash. It’s so bad it’s really funny. It’s so bad it’s really funny.

“What are they doing up there? I don’t know what they are doing up there.

“I have … that circus music in the background and streamers and things like that. There must be something to do when a Roosters player gets hit in 2021. There must be something distracting them. It’s like the twilight zone up there when a Roosters player gets hit overhead. “
